The year is coming to a close and this one has been quite a significant one for Bollywood. A lot happened in 2019 and several Bollywood celebrities found themselves the subject of unwanted attention for either their comments, or for something they posted. From Karan Johar’s house party, Zaira Wasim’s decision to quit Bollywood to the whole controversy with Kabir Singh for glorifying toxic masculinity, this year saw some of the biggest controversies that lasted for a long time.  As the year comes to a close, let’s take a look at some of the biggest Bollywood controversies this year.

Karan Johar’s House Party: The filmmaker’s house party attended by the who’s who of Bollywood such as Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, turned into a huge controversy after Akali Dal spokesperson Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged the Bollywood stars to have been in a drugged state. This happened in July and went on for months. Karan Johar and Vicky Kaushal also explained their side of the story and rubbished all the claims.


Hardik Pandya’s Comment On Koffee With Karan: Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul got into trouble after they made an appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 6. Hardik Pandya was slammed for his sexist comments, deemed by some as disrespectful towards women, on the popular chat show, and the duo was suspended by the BCCI from playing the series in Australia. They both apologized to the BCCI for the sexist remarks. Some of Hardik Pandya’s comments were- “When I lost my virginity, I came home and said, 'Main karke aya hai aaj (I had sex today)'. At a party my parents asked me 'acha tera wala kaun sa hai (who is your interest here?) so I said yeh, yeh, yeh' and they were like 'waah proud of you beta,’” and "I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I'm little from the black side so I need to see how they move.”


Kangana Ranaut’s Ugly Fight With A Reporter: Kangana Ranaut got into an ugly spat with a reporter at the launch of a song from her film Judgementall Hai Kya. She accused him of writing negative reviews about her film Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and for running a smear campaign against Kangana.


Zaira Wasim’s Decision To Quit Bollywood: Zaira Wasim shocked one and all with her sudden decision to quit Bollywood. The child actress, who shot to fame with her Bollywood debut in Nitesh Tiwari's Dangal,  also starring Aamir Khan, took to her social media and wrote a lengthy note saying she was not happy with the line of work as it interfered with her faith and religion. A lot was said about her decision to quit, and while many celebrities came out in support of Zaira Wasim, she also faced a lot of backlash.


Vivek Oberoi’s Meme  On Aishwarya Rai:  Vivek Oberoi landed in a soup after he tweeted a meme taking a jibe at Aishwarya Rai and also involved Salman Khan, himself and Abhishek Bachchan, taking an angle of Exit Polls. It did not go down well with Netizens and they were miffed with Vivek Oberoi. He later issued an apology on Twitter, and deleted the meme.
